THE ART EXHIBITION SA selects 20 emerging artists from Gauteng. Please read everything below before you fill in the form. Applications close on 27 November 2026.

Training workshop and stipend

  • Accredited training workshop: every selected artist must complete an accredited NQF Level 2 visual art development programme from 11 January to 5 February 2027 at Lefika la Phodiso, Johannesburg.
  • Stipend: every selected artist receives a R4,000 stipend.
  • Certificate: all 20 finalists receive an accredited certificate when they complete the training.
  • You must be available: only apply if you can take part in all the training dates and programme activities.

Who can apply

  • You are based in Gauteng.
  • You are 21 years or older.
  • You are outside formal schooling.
  • You are an emerging visual artist.
  • You work in drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography or printmaking.

What you must submit

  • Exactly 4 original artworks, each with a high-resolution JPG or PNG image.
  • Your Artist Biography, Artist Statement and Artist CV.
  • A profile photo.
  • Applications with fewer or more than 4 artworks will not be considered.

  • Artistic quality and technical execution
  • Originality and creative expression
  • Clarity of concept
  • Relevance to the theme, Inani Lombono: Currency of Sight
  • Quality of the artworks
  • Potential for artistic development

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed, late applications will not be accepted, and applying does not guarantee selection.

accredited training, a professional exhibition and access to the art market.
